Con gli occhi di Enea. Immagini, narrazioni e punto di vista nell’ecfrasi di Aen. 8

This article analyzes some characteristics of the ekphrasis of Aeneas’ shield in the finale of Aen. 8, both in comparison with the Homeric model and in the context of the Aeneid (especially the “micro-ekphrasis” of Turnus’ shield towards the end of Aen. 7). Aeneas’ point of view proves to be important for understanding both the literary and narrative specificity of the description in Aen. 8 and Virgil’s ideological and political construction in relation to the Augustan regime.
